
Dr. Jelena Petrinovic-Doresic
Qualifications
During her training, she honed her skills in several international centers, which led to the introduction of new diagnostic and treatment methods in Croatia, such as laser treatment for retinopathy of prematurity and the implantation of specialized intraocular lenses in children with cataracts. She completed her postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Science in 1993 and obtained her master's degree in 1998 with a thesis on immunological markers in the eye fluid of patients with uveitis. In 2012, she earned her PhD at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, defending a dissertation on retinopathy of prematurity. A year later, the National Science Council appointed her as a research associate.
Experience
She continued working at the Ophthalmology Department, which later became the Eye Clinic. In 2012, the Croatian Ministry of Health awarded her subspecialties in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, and in 2014, in the anterior segment of the eye. She was granted the title of primarius in 2015, and in 2014, the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) awarded her the title of Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO Ad Eundum) for her contributions to international ophthalmology exams.
Publications
She has been elected twice to the Board of the Section for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, currently serving as secretary. She is a member of the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society, the European Strabismological Association (ESA), and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). She has published numerous scientific and professional papers and mentored many doctors during their specialization.
