LPSC hysterectomy

About

LPSC hysterectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove the uterus using laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical technique. Additionally, alongside LPSC hysterectomy, it's possible to perform adnexectomy (total), which involves the removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

LPSC hysterectomy can be an effective treatment for various uterine problems and can provide relief from symptoms, improving the quality of life for patients, but it requires careful preparation and monitoring after surgery.

Candidate

Women suffering from various conditions or issues of the uterus, such as fibroids, adenomyosis, uterine cancer, or heavy menstrual bleeding, may be candidates for LPSC hysterectomy. Before recommending this procedure, a thorough evaluation is usually conducted to determine the patient's suitability for hysterectomy and select the optimal therapy.

Preparation

Before the surgery, patients typically undergo a pelvic exam, ultrasound, blood tests, or other diagnostic tests to assess the condition of the uterus and the patient's health. It may be necessary to restrict food and drink intake several hours before the surgery. The doctor will provide detailed instructions on preparing for the surgery, including any medications that need to be discontinued before the procedure.

Treatment

LPSC hysterectomy is usually performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdomen through which laparoscopic instruments, including a laparoscope for visualizing the inside of the abdominal cavity, are inserted. After identifying the uterus, the surgeon carefully separates it from surrounding structures and removes it through the small incisions. In some cases, along with hysterectomy, it's possible to remove the ovaries and/or fallopian tubes, depending on medical indication.

Result

The results of LPSC hysterectomy depend on the patient's condition before surgery, the type of uterine problem, and possible complications. Most patients experience a reduction or cessation of symptoms associated with the underlying condition after hysterectomy. It's important to note that some women may need to adjust emotionally after uterus removal, which may require support and counseling.

Precautions

After the surgery, patients will receive instructions on postoperative care, activity restrictions, and signs of possible complications that may arise. Regular check-ups after surgery are important for monitoring recovery and detecting any complications.
