Dr. Robert Bernat

Prof. Ph.D. Robert Bernat, MD is the head of the Department of Cardiology at the Clinic for Internal Medicine 2, Westpfalz-Klinikum in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was the head of the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases at the Magdalena Clinic. He is an associate professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Osijek. He gained extensive clinical experience in non-invasive cardiac procedures, invasive cardiac procedures (coronary angiography, cardiac catheterization, PCI, interventional closure of ASD and PFO, interventional and diagnostic procedures on peripheral arteries, TAVI, percutaneous correction of mitral regurgitation, closure of the auricle of the left atrium), electrophysiological procedures, electrostimulators and ICD implantation. He introduced percutaneous interventions for atrial septal defects in adults into Croatian clinical practice and was the first to perform percutaneous aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He is the author of several professional and scientific works. Regular activity during the last 10 years with 30 to 40 invited and sponsored lectures per year includes: training of residents and specialist cardiologists with a wide range of topics: prevention (hypertension, lipids, diabetes in cardiology), interventional procedures (PCI, LAAO), electrophysiology (including officially proctoring for the Carto 3D system), structural interventions (TAVI, MitraClip, Carillion) and general cardiology. He is a member of the Croatian and German cardiology societies.
