Born in Zagreb, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, specialized in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. Habilitation and professorship at the Medical Faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, and during 15 years of work in Erlangen subspecialization in head and neck plastic surgery and skull base microsurgery. At the University of Frankfurt a.M. subspecialization in allergology.
